Cant comment on the compost product, but we use Green Waste as a spring mulch on all the beds at Toddington Manor and cant recommend it enough. Weve been using it now for about 8 years, and never had a problem with weeds or contamination, a...
Linette for Prime Minister :) Thank you Linette. Great advice. I have been attempting to make my own compost with my veg & flower wast from the house - I will unveil this week end to see! I will attempt to work into my hardest bed - but only if there has been some rain - otherwise I will need a jackhammer! But checking out what is growing around my area is a logical and excellent idea - thank you for that. So things are defo looking up for my gardening, thanks to you!
Hi Linette, thank you for your comment on my first ever blog. I attend two traditional markets a week which are 10 miles away and 100 miles away. My nursery is a rented site and I have managed to negotiate opening it to the public next year. I don't attend the markets in January or February and this year I missed out March as well because it was too cold for folk to garden and so all the spring bulbs I'd grown had to go to the back of the nursery for next year. At present I have no days off because watering is done by hand unless of course we have a day of rain. Yes I have lots of fabulous customers with positive comments. Some even buy me coffee or bring me cakes! How great is that? :-)
Thank you for your warm welcome, I'm not planning on giving up gardening in fact i will be here utill i get too slow to move. I have been at Sherborne for 13 years now, previously I was head gardener on the 800 acre Little (Wee) Cumbrae estates in the Firth of Clyde. Before this a area manager and contracts manager for large Landscape companies. I studied at Sparsholt, Hadlow, and Cannington Colleges a full year at each, and have done incidental courses at Merrist Wood, Bicton, and Kingston Maurward. Most recently sucesfully completing the Proffesional Tree Inspection course (the AA one). At home I have a sound family life; my wife and i have three children under 6 which keeps us both buisy. We are self sufficient for our veg and have been for around a decade and a half. I especially like to grow hot peppers! Guess you could say I'm a bit like an old tree in gardening terms!!- I have my roots firmly in the ground.
Hi Linette, Bribery helps quite a lot. My daughter was quite keen last year but now she's a bit bored with it all. The photo of my son is the one and only time he's ever helped me. I'm going to start digging a pond this summer so hopefully they may want to become involved with that.
hi just found this web site and joined , have been in this business for over 20 years and finally went self employed ...... was wondering what 3d design program you use and any other adviseyou can offer .
Hi Linette, thanks for encouragement. Yes it is my first time and feeling nervous mainly because I've not had long to organize it. The perennials are being very unpredictable this year and keep having to find alternatives - l really wanted to use Agapanthus 'White Heaven' but was told yesterday they may not be ready in time but l won't really know until the last minute. The planting scheme is black and white with a few hints of purple and silver to lift which matches the whole theme of the garden. The main thing that worries me is not having enough plants and l keep adding more just to make sure but its fun getting to know the nurseries and learning more as l go along. l never seem to get off the phone!
Hi Linette. I have visited Toddington Manor on a number of of times in the past a was impressed with the set up and the way things were developing. Depending on the time of year my wife and I were able to see beautiful things growing. Its nice to be able to put a face to it all. My gardens in need of alot of work so I'll be in touch to pick your brains in the future.
