Why cant there be Opportunities like this in the north hmm? Oh well, there's that many people in this line of work now I don't think you'll have any trouble finding someone. peter
sorry for not getting back to you, you can blame springwatch!! and the weather. tree appears to be ok at the moment. have cut off lower branches with no fruit. the name of it is "jack ross" thank you for your interest. chris.
Thanks Peter. I knew it would be difficult starting the business (no completed gardens to show) but I thought I'd be able to give away a freeby to get my final course project done. Even with the ecomony as it is you'd think someone would agree to work with me for the design, so its ready to implement when things perk up. Sue
Oh dear it's all gone a bit quiet. No one wants to talk about actual design, they seem to be more interested in the money/business side of things, or reminiscing about phormiums! :( (see forum) I'll keep posting in the forum maybe some will latch on and want to talk about creativity when things pick up a bit. p
Clients who have the means and give you a free reign to design a garden which is innovative and individual are few and far between. Most clients usually know what features they want in their gardens and if you go back to them with something out of the ordinary and revolutionary they usually can't imagine or picture in their minds what you are trying to achieve for them no matter how much you show them on paper or describe it. In most cases can't afford it either. I've been forturnate with my client in Alderley Edge who had a very basic brief and more or less let me get on with it and money has not been an issue - it is wonderful to work for clients like this as you are not constantly worried about tight budgets and being reigned in on your ideas and suggestions. However clients like this are rare and when you are fortunate to be commissioned by one enjoy it - next year once their orangery has been built I'm back on phase two being all the landscaping around the new building and then onto the front of the house and driveway. It's always difficult at the outset of your new career - I found the same when I started off with Outside Rooms. Has your garden at Tatton Show brought you anythiing? Every year I come away from there saying that I'm going to do a garden the following year but then I get more enquires and I just don't have the time - vicious circle - maybe one day. Any way keep plugging away at it and good luck for '09.
Unfortunately with the current financial situation I think treating the garden to a makeover is going to the bottom of peoples' lists. I've been designing gardens in south Manchester & Cheshire for last 7 years and its the quietest I've known it since end of July. I put it down to school holidays at first but its much more than that. The hits on my web site are down and the enquiries from these hits are nonexistent which has'nt happened before. Let's hope things get better soon but I'm not that optimistic I'm afraid. Good luck.
