DEVON landscape company wins Shed load of awards

A Dartmouth based landscape contractor has just gained several prestigious awards from the

Association of Professional Landscapers. Alex Webster, senior partner of Essential Earthmen

entered a garden they had planted and now maintain in Salcombe into the annual awards

ceremony, which was held at Sketchly Park Hinkly in Lecistershire, on February11th.

Despite stiff competition from across the country the garden went on to win an award in both the

soft landscaping and maintenance category.

Designed by Joanna Stopher of the Stopher design Partner ship the garden the garden sets of

the spectacular house designed by local architect Stan bolt and constructed by Heron Homes.

The garden is set out with rolling lawn and a planting scheme that can tolerate the salt winds

that spring up from the Salcombe estuary.

The Planting is a mix of ever greens and perennials with a thread of grasses running through the

garden. This mix ensures that the garden looks good at any time of the year.

The Garden was planted out two years ago with some semi mature specimens and is now

beginning to fill out .

The Maintenance of the garden is carried out on a weekly basis with particular attention to detail

and the care of the finished garden.

Chair of the judging panel and APL vice-chairman, Mark Gregory said,
“We received a record number of entries this year and the standard was exceptionally

high. Landscaping really does benefit from attention to detail and many of the winning

schemes showed this. Many congratulations to The Essential Earthmen on their

success.”

Mr Alex Webster, senior partner in the Essential Earthmen, said,

“Its Fantastic that this project has done so well and it goes to show the strengths that exist in the

South west, to pull together and produce such a great piece of work.”

He went on to say

“ He was very proud of his company’s achievement and would like to thank

his staff for their hard work and dedication, and would also like to thank the long list of our local

suppliers.

Also at the ceremony Duncan Nuttall who works for the Dartmouth based Landscape Company

received an award of highly commended in the young achiever of the year category

At the event Duncan was presented his award by International garden designer and

Chelsea Flower show Gold Medal winner Andy Sturgeon

Paying tribute to Duncan’s achievement Alex Webster commented

“Duncan gets on well with all of his work mates and is spoken very highly of

by our clients, he is polite courteous hard working, trustworthy and diligent

with the work tasks assigned to him and his work crew.”

The Essential Earthmen has been constructing high quality gardens in the South West for over

twenty years and this award represents recognition for one of Devon’s premier landscape

 companies.
