Gardens for kids
9:12 PM on 16 March 2009

I have just spent this weekend assessing a pile of designs from two classes of 9-11 year olds at my daughter’s school.

They are currently working on a two-week project of improving their school environment.

So the suggestion was put forward to redesign two areas out side of their classrooms.

I lent the teachers the Conran/Pearson and Conran Gavin Garden design books and the teachers spent some time talking with the pupils about what they wanted to use the space for and how it should look.

I must say that the high standard of the drawing and designs really blew me away.

|My roll was to help turn the children’s ideas into a workable design and to help with the construction.

So we have cleared out our yard and with a lot of help from our local branch of Travis Perkins, we are now turning their ideas into reality.

This kind of work does not cost much and if it helps turn just one youngster towards the world of garden design/construction them more the good.

I will post photos later in the week.

Alex
