Titchmarsh to dig Gardeners' World out of its rut with dramatic return

Topics: 23   Posts: 119

The Daily Mail has reported that Alan Titchmarsh is set to make a return to BBC Gardeners Worls to help rescue the show. Read article here

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Do you like the new format or is it time to bring back a seasoned veteran?

Hurray

I watched Monty Don in dribs and drabs. I gave Toby Buckland and team a chance but after 3-4 episodes gave it a miss totally. Alan has always been one of my favorites and if he comes back will watch again.

However the current format definately needs to be changed. More design content would be good and not from the usual high profile designers. Regional designers' work woud be great to see showcased.  I wonder if they would carry on at the present venue or start completely afresh somewhere else? It'll be interesting to see what happens but something has to change

Hooray. Can't wait! I had stopped watching Gardeners World. With one of my heros back I'll be starting again.

His return should improve it no end.

Whooo-hooo! It can only be a good thing. I've been watching since the days of Geoff Hamilton and liked them all - Geoff, Alan & Monty. But this years programme is awful - Toby & Alice make it like Blue Peter. I don't mind Carol in small doses, but the only one who really works for me is Joe Swift.

When it moved to 10pm I thought that was going to be the death knell for the programme - a not to subtle way of getting rid of it.

I reckon Chris Beardshaw would make a good presenter for the programme.

Fantastic! I've always previously enjoyed G.W. but the new bunch are so dull! Their garden looks dull too. The only good part is that shed thing they built with the spade door handles

I would love to see it overhauled.  With new fresh ideas and designers - a bit more funky and less crusty and boring.  :o)

The Times has today reported that Gardeners World is to return to its roots after gimmicky return fails to meet the approval of its viewers.

Whilst Alan Titchmarsh or Monty Don won't be making an apearance at least the format will change to one that I think will please the majority, only time will tell!

What do you think?

It can only be a good thing. Like a few have said before I tried to watch this series but quickly gave up with it. The whole 'lets try and be like Top Gear' mindset didn't work imho so it would be a welcome return for a more traditional format...

Yes, I agree it is positive to have Alan back however there is a slight sense of dissappointment.  I find it sad that there is no one else who could have provided a face for BBC gardening that could lift the show without having to go back to a presenter who moved on.

Anything to raise horticulture within the TV media would be good.  It seems gardening has been shelved from TV shows - was it due to over exposure??
