Hi Ian, Have you seen the VW2009 software yet? Afraid I can't get along to the Magic Circle next week to see it. I'm interested to know if the new 3D functionality means you can draw in 3D space as in SketchUp, or whether you h...
Hi Paul. It's 'horses-for-courses' I guess. Different CAD programs suit different designers. I personally find SketchUp quicker for 3D modelling, and I like the fact that you can actually draw in 3D space. It does look a bit ...
Hi Mathew, I've just cancelled my paid advertising in phone books and yell.com etc. It's relatively expensive and only attracts the 'block pavers like next door' type of client. Advertising in magazines brought little...
Hi Claudia, Did you find VectorWorks/SketchUp training OK? As Regional Co-ordinator for the SGD I've organised a workshop looking at the differences between the products if you're not sure which would be best for you. It's...
Here's the link for the SketchUp tutorials - http://sketchup.google.com/training/. Most important to master are the concepts of breaking edges, and use of groups and components to control 'stickiness'. Regards, Linda
Hi Paul. It's 'horses-for-courses' I guess. Different CAD programs suit different designers. I personally find SketchUp quicker for 3D modelling, and I like the fact that you can actually draw in 3D space. It does look a bit plastically though, so if presentation is key I recommend VectorWorks, or using SketchUp to construct the perspectives and then combine with hand-drawing and PhotoShop. Regards, Linda
Both Sketch-up and Vectorworks have their merits. Sketch is very good in terms of speed and versatility. If you are methodical you make technicaly accurate (dims etc) models in Sketch up.The 'flythrough' tool in sketch up is great for presentations whereas Vectorworks has to re-render each new view. I agree with Kieth's summary although I have found curves handling ok in Sketch Up(see my 3d Album) if you mean 3d but if 2d then V-works has more flexible tools. Vectorworks has the best range of three 3d plants and the fact that this is linked to the planting schedule is obviously a bonus. I hope I'm not preaching to the converted. Paul-mark
Checked out your work at Chelsea. Very well thought through in concept and design. Love that Japanese wall. I work in your area so please keep me in mind. I should be working indoors at the Chelsea VIP lounge in a month or so. (internal natural stone wall at the footy club) Ta ta
