treehuggers!
9:30 AM on 25 June 2008

altI have been having an interesting 'conversation' on another forum about treehugging. Talking to my husband about it- he thinks this is an eccentric hobby (surely not!)- and now i'm beginning to wonder...... Am I eccentric? (don't think so), abnormal/mad? (possibly). Anyway I thought TGN would be a good place to ask- are there any more treehuggers out there- and if so what determines the tree you would hug?!

Drink is an optional extra but things turn into a lean rather than a hug! Haaaa!!

Maybe that's it. You must have a drink before/during/after tree hugging.

There must be something in the water/wine in Portugal. We hug trees, normally when we are loading them into/off lorries. 30 litre ones are okay, 1000 litre ones can be a bit scary!!!

I'm not fussy, I'll hug any old tree so long as it's not too prickly or smelling of dog wee! It's not weird at all, sometimes I'm just compelled to do it! Makes me feel grounded and humble. There's something so back to basics about it that it stops me taking myself too seriously! It was much the same when I went to visit the many standing stones on the Western Isles and Orkney, just HAD to hug them too! They've been there far longer than we have and deserve a squeeze!!
