Gardening is like Rocket Science #002- Considering Space
5:07 PM on 18 January 2010
I would love to be clever enough to draw direct comparisons between outer space (bright stars, galaxies, black holes and perhaps even the odd alien encounter for good measure!) and your back garden, however, I am of course not clever enough or indeed even pondering that type of space and universe at all!  My thoughts about space are more concerned with the complexity each and every gardener faces when dealing with the defined space they have here on planet earth!

Defining what we do with our space is one of life’s ongoing challenges/opportunities.  It's in our own little garden universe that the possible permutations of what could be done are so mind blowing!   To make matters more interesting still, we are not just talking three dimensions here either, oh no!  Gardeners have to be time lords too!  We need to have the ability to visualize all the components of the garden and how they will be the future, whilst also taking into consideration what has gone before.

What to do with the space is the exciting part and the great thing about doing something, is that you are not letting nature decide for you what and how your space is going to be.  Nature will if you don't!

The other great thing about defining space in a garden is that, like the rocket scientists (okay physicists) who try to define space,  there really is no right or wrong way to do it, what matters is that you do something and are happy with what you create.

A final thought........pondering the universe will not get the washing up done!

Remember………Gardening is exactly like Rocket Science!
