Sparsholt College, Winchester, Hampshire - a superb setting with excellent resources

Sparsholt College, Winchester is situated in the heart of the Hampshire countryside with Winchester just 5 miles down the road - offering a wide range of courses including full, part time and work based learning suitable for students aged 16 plus. Degrees are validated by the University of Portsmouth...



Sparsholt College - an overview
Set in 400 acres, the College has excellent resources which support learning and study including: the National Aquatics Training Centre; a 176 hectare farm; an animal management Centre - home to over 500 animals; an equine centre comprising 50 stables, an indoor arena and 3 outdoor arenas; sports facilities; engineering workshops and a extensive horticultural section.


Sparsholt College - the Horticulture section
The 15 hectare horticulture section boasts ornamental grounds which enhance the whole college campus with six hectares of sports grounds, including winter pitches. The commercial area produces cut flowers and herbaceous plants. Two drawing studios provide excellent facilities for garden designers.

Horticulture students also get the chance to compete in the Chelsea Flower Show in which they have successful records winning two Gold medals and a Silver Lindley medal in the last three years.

The College is also home to BBC Radio 4’s “Gardeners Question Time” potting Shed and garden which was opened in May 2002. Over 2,000 visitors attend the GQT Summer Garden Party which has been hosted by Sparsholt College for the past five years.

The College offers a vast range of horticultural courses from introductory to degree level as well as floristry and landscape courses for industry and leisure. Alongside our part time and RHS courses, the following courses are available from September 2008:

• BSc (Hons) in Garden Design
• FdSc Garden Design (full and part time)
• FdSc Horticulture (full and part time)
• FdSc in Horticulture Landscape Practices
• BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Horticulture
• BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Horticulture
• BTEC Level 3 National Award in Horticulture
• C & G Level 3 Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture (Landscape Practice)
• C & G Level 3 Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture (Decorative Horticulture)
• BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Horticulture
• BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Horticulture
• City and Guilds NPTC NVQ Level 1 – Introductory Horticultural Course
