Welsh College of Horticulture - an overview
The Welsh College of Horticulture is a Grade 1 Land-based College and the premier horticultural College in Wales. It has excellent facilities for all areas of horticultural training and a range of committed and experienced staff to support learning needs.

Courses are offered from beginners through to university level, on a full and part time, and work based learning basis.


Welsh College of Horticulture - campus facilities
91-hectares with a vast range of horticultural facilities and resources in which learners can carry out research, and practical work. Students are often seen working in one of the large number of ornamental gardens, sports turf areas, or state of the art landscape design studios.

WCoH believes its commercial horticultural facilities to be the best at any land-based College in the UK. Students are involved in the day to day operations of wholesale production unit Northop Nurseries, onsite Northop Garden Centre and Floristry Shop, and the 10 hectare organic horticulture development farm for Wales, Northop Organics. All 3 businesses are popular organisations within local industry and communities, and trade to the public.


Welsh College of Horticulture - graduate success
Students of the horticultural and floristry departments at WCoH are annually involved in the design and construction of award winning gardens and displays, at a number of prestigious shows including RHS Tatton Flower Show, and the Royal Welsh Show.

• The Step forward programme of Part time Horticulture Studies (Levels 1, 2, & 3)
• RHS General Certificate in Horticulture (Part time) (Level 2)
• RHS Advanced Certificate in Horticulture (Part time) (Level 3)
• National Certificate in Horticulture
• National Diploma in Horticulture
• Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Organic Horticulture
• Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Landscape Construction and Garden Design
• Higher National Certificate Environmental Conservation Management
• Higher National Certificate in Nursery Production and Garden Centre Management
• Higher National Certificate Sports Ground Management
• Professional Diploma in Garden Design

Work-based learning placements are also offered annually at the main campus and to individual private organisations. WCoH also offers a large number of short courses aimed at both novice gardeners, and those employed professionally within the horticultural industries.

Outreach centres and training officers are placed throughout Wales, and across the North West of England. Courses are also offered in the Colleges 4 other subject areas; Animal Care, Equine, Floristry, and Machinery.

WCoH works in close partnership with land-based industries to ensure that students graduate with relevant skill sets and needed attributes. WCoH is also committed to supporting the businesses within the land-based industries, and in doing so has developed organisations such as Horticulture Network Wales (HNW).

HNW is a business support project established to facilitate, support and meet the business needs of the horticulture industry in Wales, to assist Welsh horticulture companies tackle competitiveness and sustainability issues through collaboration and sharing knowledge.
