I have a potential client who is asking me to quote for a fairly extensive and expensive piece of landscaping but before going ahead thet want to look at other work I have done . This would mean , in many instances , having to go through peoples houses to view the garden . I don't think I would be to keen to have someone who has done work for me bring a client around to my house . How do others feel about this .

I have never found this to be a problem, like the many other comments here my clients are only too happy to show off their gardens, yesterday I was looking at a new garden, a recommend from a job just completed, and called in on an job completed over 10 years ago to see how it had developed, and was enthusiastically invited in and offered tea its a great feeling.

Happy to say that my clients are my best people to show off my design talents - and only too happy to show off their gardens to others. By keeping in touch with them I can also help address any aspects of the garden as it develops and point them in the right direction which - again - is hugely appreciated. If for any reasons problems do occurr it is far better - in my book - to know what they are and address them professionally than pretend they don't exist. Be confident in you approach and I'm sure you will be rewarded. All the best. Tim

I have had clients volunteer without being asked as they are happy to recommend. I also keep in touch with lots of my former clients so there is no problem coming back and asking to show someone their garden

We have never had any problem with this. Most people appreciate that our best advertising is previous work and are so delighted with the outcome that they are more than happy to show off their garden. Ofcourse we always ask check first - they can only say 'no'. Websites are great although we (at present control is in the hands of our friendly designer and being hopefully changed to HTML) can not always have it as up to date as it should be!!!.
