Trade Associations - which to join?
10:48 PM on 19 April 2008

We are a small landscaping company, wishing to grow. We are wanting to gain higher value and interesting work and one way of gaining the customer's trust... so we have been advised, is to join a trade association.

The million pound question is... which one?

Is BALI better than APL or vice versa?

Are these associations just after our money to provide us with a logo or do they actually offer anything of value?

Let me know your thoughts and experiences. What do customers actually look for if they do not go with a recommendation?

Thanks.

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

I would say that BALI are better suited to bigger and more commericallly minded businesses.

As a APL member myself, I have benefited alot from it since I joined up 4 years ago.

APL have an excellent business improvement scheme, where members meet up regularly and share business experiences...this has been invaluable to me.
Also the annual landscape awards provide members an opportunity to enter their best projects in with a chance of winning and promoting their businesses. This would give prospective clients more confidence in your work.

Furthermore, the yearly subscription fee is very affordable...£322 for businesses with a turnover of less than 100k. £446 for turnovers between 100k and 250k....great for small landscaping companies!!

Best wishes

Clive
