Friday 5 o clock we made it thats a win.
8:45 PM on 28 March 2008

Well a nother week over time spent in the delicate act of balancing staff, clients suppliers, paying bills and hpofully getting paid.

Driving home this evening along the embankment spotted a clent walking with his family they are down for the weekend.

pleasantries exchanged congrats from the on our most recent award{for there garden} thanks to them for ther patronage.

They then expressed how pleased they are with the finished jo and what pleasuer the have in spending time in it .

It then struck me that we are not in the landscape inustry or garden design but the industry of making people Happy .

Have a good weekend all

I love my job too for so many reasons. It's SO satisfyying when the clients let you know they're pleased - I have one who throws an annual garden party in my honour so that we can see how it has developed over time. It's been so useful to see how and whether the planting combinations have worked as I hoped, how the battle against pheasants and slugs is being waged but most of all it's a real thrill to see what was an impossibly steep slope with atrocious soil morph into a lively and well used outdoor space. Although the clients have since added a number of other hard landscping features (which if I'm honest, I have to say I don't like - there's altogether too much walling for my liking), they love it and they spend every possible moment outside. It looks at it's best from about now until the end of october but even on a dreary, grey Devon day, there's always something pleasing to look at.

I also love getting to meet people I would never have otherwise met. Some of my clients are quite extraordinarily interesting, some of them are a bit ****ers, some are neurotic, some have had an incredible journey to get where they are but they are almost all lovely and quite a number of them have since become friends.

So, I don't regret swapping a suit and a whizzy car for mucking about with my hands in the soil one little bit, even if the cashflow gets a bit hairy sometimes.

Still no sign of the cold snap and snow they've been predicting so far here...I might even get to do a bit in my own garden this weekend!

So true..so true. I am going back to see a client on Monday - she is so happy with the garden we made over the winter 'that you must come and see it Maria now it's growing'. I love my job!
