There are an awful lot of new or garden beginers now joining garden network all looking for help so how a bout a new groupe where us pros can assist new gardeners to either sort out there own plot or to help people start a new business or get a foot hold in the industry so what are your thoughts ?

I think it sounds great, It is nearly impossible for people to get help starting a new business in the UK if your not under 19 or a convicted criminal!.. sometimes people just need that little bit of confidence to help them through before they give it all up or make a mistake.. Things like what insurance they should have, what certificates, what should they pay for certain things. Earthman I understand completly about staff, I took a young lad under my wing to train him up, 17 yrs old I offered to paid him £250 a week.. he turned up for work twice!.. My brother runs a landscape business in Spalding and has the same problem, now he will only employ ex-army as he knows they work!..

I think its a good idea for a group and I really do not think you should be worried about damaging your business?.. you should be more worried about people using bad gardeners, landscapers and the industry getting a bad name.. things carry on the way they are with the con men and non-fixed location types before long someone will introduce some new licence or something that will end up costing us more money..

Sorry Kerri you missed the point My thought was that alot of the amatures are in need of pointing in the right direction ie ideas sources of materials etc and as for helping people come into the industry well we are all looking for staff of some kind or another.
Last month we advertized for a gardener to work with our maintenance crew we were offering 20K per annum and no body applied and im convinced that there is no one out there looking .
