I'm sure I asked this when this site first started up, but how do the rest of the garden designers on this site go about getting new commissions. My web site has been up and running now for nearly two years and i've spent money on yell.com and local glossy mag adverts. My serious clients seem to come from word of mouth but even that is slow. Is it worth doing a show garden to market yourselves? Any other thoughts on how to best market my garden design business....alt

Hi all

I'm on the search for a lightweight border spade thats easy to use. I'm 5ft 5 so don't want something thats causes too much bending yet at the same time not too big. any recommendations?

Hi I've been commissioned to design and indoor japanese inspired water garden, anyone got any tips. The space is about 10m long and 5m wide with a westerly aspect and a glass wall on this side only, the other sides open into the middle of the house. Which plants will be suitable indoor to give a feeling of lush green. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I set up my garden design business about 18months ago as a hobby, now i really want to turn it into a success! I'm sure as you all have a wealth of experience you could perhaps share some tips please....

How do i go about getting the clients, my ******* is up and running and has been for about a year.

Is it possible to be a garden designer as a full time profession and make a good living from it. I was thinking of joining the SGD but it all seems very expensive! I'll leave you all to mull over your replies while i sip my wine and watch eastenders....
