whats the best way to attract new clients
5:10 PM on 1 June 2008
I'm sure I asked this when this site first started up, but how do the rest of the garden designers on this site go about getting new commissions. My web site has been up and running now for nearly two years and i've spent money on yell.com and local glossy mag adverts. My serious clients seem to come from word of mouth but even that is slow. Is it worth doing a show garden to market yourselves? Any other thoughts on how to best market my garden design business....alt

Have you thought about writing editorial for your local parish mag/community rag? Its not outright advertising but will gain you local trust and showcase the knowledge you have on plants/design/gardening. Publications like these always seem grateful for reliable local contributors.

Your website needs to have links to be visible, forget yell etc.. you can do it without spending a penny!.. but it takes time, you need to search the web for every way of listing your www address. Things like gumtree etc, also speak to suppliers and ask about a link exchange, put your link on their site and thiers on your site. Get some adverts on the site as well, things like the amazon and google ad's all help and you may even get some money back off them. It might be a good idea to start a link exchange on here? anyone wants to do a link exchange with me let me know. Also don't forget buy some T-shirts and get your webaddress in big letters on the back and wear them everywhere!.. you would be amazed.. standing in a line at tescos think how many people just saw your web address? t-shirts are cheap I paid £10 each for 4 really nice quality ones. You will need more than one by the way as they soon get a bit worn out!.. other than that paint it on your bum and run naked through the streets... people might notice?

I'd love some tips too, I'm just starting out so don't even have the luxury of word of mouth yet! I offer a great service but have no-one to offer it to!
